Music Classes 

Intermediate Vocal Class: Ages: 9 -14  Min.6   Max. 10     Class run time:  75 min.
( For those who've participated in First Note Music Beginning Vocal Class or who've had prior vocal training. )
12 WEEK PROGRAM-Starts: Monday, September 10, 2007 and continues on Mondays from 2:30pm-3:45pm at First Note Music.  This Group Vocal/Choir Class is a continuation from the Beginning Vocal/Choral Class.  It is for the more serious of vocal students interested in improving their vocal quality at an affordable price.  This class will cover all the same elements as the beginning vocal class with the addition of more focus and attention placed on vocal training and development.  Hence, the additional 15 minutes are devoted to vocal quality/tone production and warm-ups.  The repertoire includes a wide variety of songs.  Some songs will include movement and speaking and/or solo parts.
ALL STUDENTS will receive:
" Their own copies of music along with rehearsal CD to practice and bring to class for rehearsal
" Their own CD of warm-ups and vocal exercises
All group literature is educationally sound and correlates with Florida Sunshine State Standards for Music. Instruction.  At the end of the 12 weeks, students will perform repertoire of 8-9 songs for family and friends.
***A second class will be added if there is more interest than the classroom size can handle.  If you have questions as to song selection, please call Mrs. Bryant at home 573-5817 for further description & details.

COST: $120.00 for the 12 week session which is DUE PRIOR to the start of class.

SPACE:Solar System Unit:  Ages: 5+-early 8 Min. 6    Max.10   Class time: 60 minutes
Starts:  Tuesday, September 18, 2007 and continues on Tuesdays from 1:00pm - 2:00pm.  This 10 week unit will focus on the planets of our solar system.  Students will:
" Learn various facts about each planet and be able to identify each planet
" Learn the importance of our sun to our planet and human existence.
" Learn the phases of the moon
" Learn about Mission Control
ALL STUDENTS will receive their own Solar System/Planetary Workbook as well as tape and/or CD of songs to practice and bring to class for rehearsal.  Some song lyrics have been matched with familiar tunes for easy learning.  Students will then present a SPACE/SOLAR SYSTEM Program for family and friends at the end of the 10 weeks.

COST: $100.00 for the 10 week session which is DUE PRIOR to the start of class. This cost includes all materials needed for the class. *  Building choral skills
*  Fostering pride through participation and performance
ALL STUDENTS will receive their own copies of music to practice and bring to class for rehearsal.  All group literature is educationally sound and correlates with Florida Sunshine State Standards for Music Instruction.  At the end of the 12 weeks, students will perform A WIDE VARIETY of repertoire for family and friends.

Beginning Recorder Session: minimum students = 5           AGES: 8 -11
                                                       maximum students=8           Class run time:  60 min.
Starts Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 & will continue on Wed. from 1:00-2:00 at First Note Music
This is a Beginner class for students interested in playing a musical instrument.  The 11 week class is an ideal way to analyze student interest and ability in instrumental music. The class will focus on:
" Learning basic music concepts and symbols
" Reading notated music in the Treble Cleff
" Learning proper instrumental technique and how to care for an instrument
" Developing teamwork and group cohesiveness
" Foster pride through participation and performance
MATERIALS NEEDED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM include:
*  A recorder
*  The Recorder Book entitled "Recorder Fun" by Hal Leonard
*  A pencil
Both materials are available for purchase at First Note Music. There is no need to purchase a recorder if you already have one.  It IS imperative that the student does have all other supplies and materials with him/her at each session. 

COST: $110.00 for the 11 week session which is DUE PRIOR to the start of class.

Mom's Support Meetings will be held the second Monday of the month and park day will be the last Monday of the month.

Women's Excellent Wife book discussion and Scrapbooking

Description: 

We will be covering chapters 10-13 at this meeting. 

You'll need The Excellent Wife book and Study Guide by Martha Peace, your Bible and a pen.

8:30pm - midnight: Scrapbooking Session -- bring your own photos, scrapbooking supplies to work on, or just stay and chat!

YOU CAN COME ANYTIME DURING THE MEETING. Just for the study OR just for the scrapping--or both.  We'll have coffee and snacks, of course!

SCIENCE FAIR

The CHESF Annual Homeschool Science and Inventor's Fair will be held on Monday, October 29th.

Now is the time to begin your project; the fair is just eight weeks away.

If your group is not planning its own science fair, you are invited to participate with us.

Need help getting started?  For topic ideas, training on using the scientific method and steps to complete a project begin with:  Science Fair Handbook  There are numerous books at your local library as well.

Middle and High School participants will need to go to www.sciserv.org  to review rules and download needed paperwork.

The CHESF Fair is open to all homeschoolers K-12.  Please help spread the word.

The deadline to register is October 1st-the registration form is available on the CHESF website. www.CHESF.org

Registration fee is $2.00 per participant for non-CHESF members.

Old Florida Museum Extends Its Home School Program

Due to overwhelming response, the Old Florida Museum has added a second morning session of the Florida Timeline Home School Experience on Tuesday, September 25, 2007. This session is from 10 AM to 1 PM. The Monday, September 24 session is filled. Cost is $9.00 per person, age four and up. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult

 

The Hands-On Home School Experience is designed to expose students to daily living activities of the Timucua Indians, the Spanish Fort Mose inhabitants, and Florida Pioneer children. Guides will provide history and instruction in the use of tools and games from each time period. Students will also make a take-home project in each of the three time periods. Guests can start at any point during the session time and plan to spend approximately ninety minutes.

 

The Old Florida Museum is located at 254D San Marco Avenue at the corner of State Road 16. Entrance is through the Old Florida General Store, which faces S.R. 16. . Please call 904-824-8874 to reserve a space in the Tuesday session.

 

The museum complex includes a Timucua Indian hut, a Spanish board and batten house, and a Florida Pioneer homestead with a one-room schoolhouse. The museum also includes the 1800's style Old Florida General Store, featuring many unusual and old-fashioned items.

Homeschool PE Classes

Wa-Ke Hatchee Rec Center in Fort Myers is startiing their homeschool programs on Friday, Sept. 21st.  There is a morning nature class and an afternoon fitness class.  Each class is $10 and run for 4 weeks.  You can register by calling 461-7440.

I'm also teaching my basket weaving class on October 19 from 6 to 8 pm. Learn how to turn palm fronds into baskets, bracelets, hats, orchid nests, garden twine and even paper. Cost is $10 per person or $25 for a whole family.

As most of you may know, our parent company, Theater Conspiracy, is looking for a new home. We are still seeking a dedicate space of about 4,000 sf with decent parking in a great location at a cheap rate. Isn't everyone? If you know of any leads, please contact Bill Taylor at 936-3239. BTW, for you adults, they're performing Greater Tuna next month at the Off Broadway Palm Theatre, a temporary arrangement. Acting for youth, ages 8 to 13.


Shawn Holiday, director of Kids Conspiracy in Fort Myers, will instruct a limited number of participants ages 8 to 13 on the basics of live theater. Diction, poise, teamwork, communication, creativity, problem solving, personal expression and responsibility are some of the valuable skills emphasized in this program. Students will participate in activities such as improvisation, stage craft, audition, puppets, moonwalking and juggling. Class will culminate in a short performance on a real stage for family and friends. There are 8 classes on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 pm beginning August 30. Cost is $110.

Pint Size Performers, ages 4 to 7

This six-week class uses improvisation games to help youngsters learn about themselves and how they interact with the world. Shawn Holiday, director of Kids Conspiracy in Fort Myers, uses a comfortable, creative and rewarding atmosphere to help them communicate better and discover positive avenues for expression. In addition to fun things like juggling and puppets, there will be a short performance for family and friends during the last class. There are 6 classes on Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 am beginning  Sept. 8. Cost is $80.
